Today, the new Lithuanian government was officially announced by the decree of the President of the Republic of Lithuania, and with both pride and bittersweet emotions, we at ESMC can confirm that our esteemed Policy Director, Žygimantas Vaičiūnas, will be leaving us from the 10th December to assume the role of the Energy Minister — a position he has held before (2016–2020) with great success.
For ESMC, this marks a significant loss, as Žygimantas has been a cornerstone of our work. However, his appointment is a substantial gain for the European renewable energy sector, particularly the solar PV manufacturing industry, as he steps into this decisive role during a critical period for the energy transition.
“We joined ESMC around the same time, and over almost the past four years, we’ve built an extraordinary collaboration and friendship. I will deeply miss working with Žygimantas, but I am certain his leadership will greatly benefit the energy transition in Lithuania and Europe. I happen to know that his previous term is referred to as the ‘golden age’ by stakeholders in Lithuania’s energy sector, and I have no doubt he will bring that momentum back.”
– Johan Lindahl, Secretary General of ESMC.
While we have been preparing for this transition and restructuring efforts within the ESMC Secretariat, take-over of the responsibilities are already underway.
We wish him every success in this new chapter and look forward to the positive change he will continue to drive for Lithuania, Europe, and the renewable energy community!
